The Latest Fedora on an older computer

I plan to show Fedora 17 (the current Fedora release) on a legacy IBM NetVista computer.

Change of location: The meeting will be held at Ed Boudreaux’s house, 593 Carlaw Avenue.

Please send email to blowe if you are planning to attend , so we can get an idea of how many are planning to attend. If there are no replies by Wednesday at 5:00 PM the forum will be cancelled (no cancellation notice will be sent due to the extremely short time frame.)

June Grab Bag: I’m posting this late (what’s new?); if anyone shows up at the forum I’ll present a few things off-the-cuff, maybe try to show off some things on my Android phone (not too easy when I can’t send its output to the projector), and take questions. Then we’ll wrap for the summer.

Members!! Your feedback is needed.

I have uploaded the groups new WPCUG Logo, it is an Inkscape SVG file zipped. Inkscape is a free Open Source vector graphics editor. Visit their website and/or see our Photowebworks page for more information on it.

I locked the graphic and names layers, so you can try changing the colours on the rings and bottom layers to what you would like.

The Exec would like you to see your version for their consideration, please send it here, and/or your comments.  Below is my version as a PNG picture.

For the Linux forum in May, I demonstrated transferring Live CD or DVD content–specifically KNOPPIX 6–on to a bootable read/write medium such as USB flash drive or external USB hard disk. A copy of the presentation I used at that forum is here (LinreOffice presentation, 1.9 MB)

The Linux Forum will meet on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at Winnipeg Harvest. On topic for discussion will be writing a Linux Live CD to a USB thumb drive and making it bootable. We’ll look at doing that with an old stand-by, Knoppix, as well as Linux Mint.
